Sălaj (IPA: [sÉâ„¢.'laj], Hungarian: Szilágy) is a county (judeţ) of Romania, in the historical region Transylvania, with the capital city at Zalău.
Neighbours: Bihor County to the west, MaramureÅŸ County and Satu Mare County to the north, Cluj County to the south and east.
Demographics: In 2002, it had a population of 248,015 and the population density was 64/km²: Romanians - 71.23%, Hungarians - 23.04%, Roma - 5.05%, Slovaks - 0.55%, Other or undeclared ethnicity - 0.13%
